Optical File Transfer
Transfer files offline between two devices with a stream of QR codes
When online, devices first try a server-free peer-to-peer connection. If it is unavailable or offline, transfer falls back to the screen and camera automatically.
How it works and where privacy ends
The sender splits a file into a stream of QR codes. The receiver scans them with a camera, fills in missing frames, and verifies the completed file. Both people need to be present and keep the pages in the foreground. The web page still needs a connection to load, but no account is needed and the file is not uploaded to our server.
Fast mode supports one file up to 10 MB. Speed depends on screen size, brightness, camera focus, and browser performance. If frames are missed, keep scanning so later fountain frames can recover the file.
This version verifies file integrity but does not encrypt the file. Anyone close enough to capture the sending screen may also capture the QR contents, so do not use it for sensitive files unless they are encrypted separately.
